LILA MELEISEA
 
Lila Meleisea is a multi-instrumentalist (saxophone, African harp, kalimba and percussion) and has been involved in diverse and creative musical practices for more that 12 years. As a Chordwainer she plays the Black Rose, Bowhorn, Mountain Harp, Pocopods and String Drum.

 

During and after graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1997, she has been involved in many solo and group music and performance arts projects around Melbourne and overseas.

In 2000 she returned to Tasmania, taught at two high schools in Launceston, co-facilitated Creative Sound Workshops for health and well being, and ran Sound and Movement sessions for intellectually disabled adults.

She now lives in St. Helens and is an active member of the artistic community, regularly creating and running musical and artistic activities for youth and general public in collaboration with local council and organisations, including Grassy Bottom Regional Arts.
Current musical projects include; Marakoopa Sounds Project, an exploration and recording of vocal and instrumental sounds produced in the Marakoopa Caves; and a body of work for St. Mary’s Winter Solstice Celebrations. She is also a member of the Polynesian trio Sunga.
